Resetting the Rhythm
Thoughts on creativity, entrepreneurship, and building forward after leaving my job
What I Worked On/Thought About Today
I am currently in a liminal period between my previous job as an analyst at a long-only fund, and whatever comes next. I write daily stream-of-consciousness reflections about my work and thoughts. This helps clarify my thinking and documents my process, while hopefully sparking discussions with others. Sign up to follow along, and feel free to reach out to discuss!

I want to get back to these daily journaling posts. I don’t know what they are going to look like. They are going to look different vs when I was an analyst, that’s for sure. But I need to post something. Anything. Doesn’t have to be long. So I will do that at least for the next seven days, and see what kind of rhythm develops.
It feels like already so much has happened over the course of the last couple/few weeks since being out of work (and I’m not even referring to the markets). I have a lot to write about. I attended $THRY Partnerkon. I’ve had a couple dozen networking calls or meetings. I have explored SMB acquisition. Newsletter writing. Lots of walking and sauna. And prayer. And meditation (not enough meditation, to be honest). I am trying to get plugged into a new church. I want to join the Photography team there (I don’t know anything about photography but have always wanted to do it). Once I figured out there are sliders to adjust the macros during meal selection, Cook Unity has been pretty great. I have discovered some great media (podcasts, books, etc.). Khe Hy's Examined Life podcast. Paul Millerd's work about, well, work. Jamie Winship’s Living Fearless (recommended by Brent Beshore). I continue to enjoy Frederik Gieschen's s writing. This Signull v Noise guy is killing it. His posts are interesting and he produces them prolifically. He is applying the “most books should be blog posts” concept to blog posts and it’s working really well.
I am thinking about other ways to do entrepreneurship, outside of SMB acquisition or newsletters. Maybe ecommerce. I am thinking some kind of Christian themed yoga mat, with a Bible verse or Jesus silhouette or both (I need to try yoga soon). I am not sure what I think about consulting or contract work but it’s something to consider to bridge the gap. And I am also learning a lot from people working corporate jobs about what’s out there, some of them sounding like a better fit than others if I do end up going that route again.
It's been pretty awesome how willing people are to help. I’m very grateful for it. People want to see others win! Who would have thought?
I’ve been thinking about the concept of self-promotion, too, and whether I can come up with a better, less slimy word for it than that. But I also think the concept of self-promotion having a gross feel to it is rooted in shame. It’s tempting to be cynical and unserious and act like I don’t care whether people sign up for the Substack or follow me on X. I do. I am trying to create and to share with more people. And if certain bios or ways of posting further that mission, I want to try to figure it out. Need to experiment with more stuff around that as well.
As I write this I am on a Creative Voice writing session webinar on Ness Labs and the writing portion is over so even though I have more to say, I should probably join the discussion now.
